Aloha!

Aloha Integrative Therapy was created by me, Quiara Smith MOT OTR/L, in 2017, in order to share the immense benefits of Holistic and Integrative Occupational Therapy (OT) with the pediatric population in the SF Bay Area. I have been a practicing Occupational Therapist for 10 years in both California and in Hawaii working in various settings including hospitals, schools, an equine center providing hippotherapy, and outpatient clinics. My pediatric experience encompasses infants, toddlers, children, and adolescents with disorders that affect the development of motor and behavioral skills within the professional scope of OT practice.

Realizing the social, emotional, and psychological challenges that pelvic floor dysfunction places on children and families, I have recently decided to niche my practice to treat children and adolescents with pelvic function dysfunction. The pelvic floor (muscles which span the bottom of the pelvis) provides support for our internal organs and assists in urinary and fecal continence. Dysfunction arises when the muscles of the pelvic floor do not perform in their optimal fashion due to spasm, weakness, or incoordination. This dysfunction can cause symptoms that affect school, social, leisure, and sporting activities, which may persist into adulthood. Thus prompt attention during the childhood years is of great importance.

With a holistic approach along with my canine assistant, Nelly, I guide children and parents toward their OT goals in a meaningful way, helping each child “live life to its fullest!”
